NorthStar develops, manufactures and distributes radioisotopes that are used daily for patients needing medically important diagnostic imaging tests. NorthStar is the first company in nearly 30 years to produce the radioisotope Mo-99 in the United States NorthStar’s processes are non-uranium based and the Mo-99 is used by radiopharmacies across the country to produce the imaging radioisotope Tc-99m. The Health Physicist (HP) promotes NorthStar’s culture of safety by advancing radiation, health, and safety programs that embody a healthy working environment and compliance with regulations. The Health Physicist assists the Radiation Safety Officer and Manager of Health and Safety with identifying, evaluating, managing and preventing hazards in challenging research, manufacturing, and production workplaces.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with developing procedures used by NorthStar staff for compliance with the radiation,chemical, and general safety requirements and consistent with CGMP and FDA quality specifications.
- Performs audits that assess regulatory and good practice compliance to prevent general, radiation, and chemical unsafe conditions and evaluates safety events, injuries, or issues of non- compliance to accurately report the event, corrective actions, and steps to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain records necessary to demonstrate compliance with radiation and safety programs for inspection by regulatory bodies.
Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Safety, Physical Science, Safety and Health, or Engineering and 3 or more years of experience performing radiation safety functions or handling radioactive materials; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with maintaining and modification of GMP pharma and/or medical device production equipment is also required.
NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is headquartered in Beloit, Wis. This location is our primary manufacturing site and accommodates all of our corporate functions. Beloit has small city charm, with a lively and renovated downtown, yet is also close to cities such as Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Rockford.
Beloit is a part of the larger South Central Wisconsin/Northern Illinois region, which offers residents and visitors alike a unique blend of urban opportunities and rural, natural beauty.
