Health Physics Technician

The Health Physics Technician (HPT) performs technical functions related to NorthStar’s radiation safety program under the supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer and Manager of Health and Safety. HPT work practices must comply with WI and Federal regulations, NorthStar radioactive material licenses and radiation device registrations, and NorthStar policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with developing procedures used by NorthStar staff for compliance with the radiation, chemical, and general safety requirements and consistent with CGMP and FDA quality specifications.
- Perform radiation surveys of use and storage locations for radiation levels and radioactive contamination commensurate with license requirements.
- Maintain the radioactive material control documents that account for receipt, use, disposal, transfer, sealed sources, and leak tests.
- Order, cancel, and exchange radiation badges used by NorthStar staff.
- Assure radiation detection and measuring devices are properly calibrated for operational use.
Associates Degree in Radiation Safety, Physical Science, Safety and Health, or Engineering or 3 years of experience performing radiation safety functions or handling radioactive materials; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with maintaining and modification of GMP pharma and/or medical device production equipment is also required.
NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is headquartered in Beloit, Wis. This location is our primary manufacturing site and accommodates all of our corporate functions. Beloit has small city charm, with a lively and renovated downtown, yet is also close to cities such as Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Rockford.
