NorthStar is in search of a Material Science Engineer with polymer science knowledge to join the Research and Development (R&D) Team. The main responsibility for this position is developing and maintain chromatography resins used for isotope separation with the majority of the materials being a form of polymers. The candidate will also become NorthStar’s Subject matter Expert (SME) in materials that aid in NorthStar’s proprietary ozone generation system. The candidate will work with multiple R&D groups across the company. The candidate will support New Product Development for NorthStar’s isotope processing instrument and NorthStar’s radioactive processing equipment.
Along with assisting in New Product Development, the candidate will bring their knowledge of science, polymers, and material chemistry into failure analysis and material compatibility investigations. This includes gathering technical information about engineering systems and components and providing detailed reports. The candidate will also set up and manage the implementation of novel radioisotope manufacturing technologies as needed. The candidate will develop and execute material testing from the concept phase through design, planning, and execution as well as develop.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Engineering’s new product development projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams with an overall focus on patient safety.
- Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the chromatography resins used throughout the company’s isotope separation columns and in the materials relevant to NorthStar’s proprietary ozone generation system.
- Manage product and process development initiatives that require knowledge and expertise with advanced concepts in the field of chemistry and/or polymer science.
- Inspect, analyze, and test polymers and materials used in pharmaceutical and medical device applications.
- Study the atomic structure of materials to discover applications for their mechanical and chemical properties.
Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, or Polymer Chemistry and one to four years of related work experience. Possess a working knowledge of lab controls and general scientific equipment and can adhere to written procedures.
