Nuclear Engineer

Position

This position will assist the development of novel particle accelerator based radioisotope processing systems. This position will assist senior engineers and physicists in the specification, development, implementation, qualification, and commissioning of these general accelerator systems, and the position will lead, cross-discipline teams to develop specific subsystems of accelerator production processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support NorthStar’s program to develop and deploy accelerators for the production of radioisotopes.
  • Integrate commercial and custom accelerator subsystems to further NorthStar’s mission.
  • Develop and document irradiation systems requirements and designs
  • Design and improve accelerator radiological measurement and protection systems
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to design, purchase, and build equipment and processes that meet associated user, design, and production requirements
  • Assist with the development and execution of product and system verification and validation strategies.

Qualifications

Bachelors, or higher, degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline with a minimum of 1 year relevant technical experience, inclusive of academic experience, in an accelerator based environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of the nuclear activation of materials and experience in a radiological environment. Experience within engineering disciplines and solid knowledge of related disciplines: Nuclear, Electro/Mechanical, Systems, Fluid Mechanics, Software, and Materials Science
