The Radiochemist is responsible for analysis of radioactive samples generated in NorthStar’s production or development laboratories, maintenance and calibration of radiation measurement equipment, and may assist with quality control of products.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Operate, maintain and calibrate radiation measurement equipment, including but not limited to: gamma spectroscopy systems, liquid scintillation counting systems with alpha and beta counting modes, gas proportional counting systems, dose calibrators, survey meters, wipe test counters, etc.
· Operation, maintenance and calibration of non-radioactivity analytical instrumentation such as atomic emission spectroscopy instruments, ion chromatographs, and liquid chromatographs.
· Perform radiochemical separations as needed to support product development.
· Review, evaluate, prepare and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related physical science and 8 or more years of experience required; Master’s degree in Chemistry or related physical science and 4 or more years of experience desired. Previous experience must be in a radiochemistry position with full understanding of alpha, beta and gamma counting equipment calibration, operation, and maintenance. Knowledge and experience using Eichrom Technologies extraction chromatographic resins is desired. Experience with radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine desired.
